SELCSA WINNER 2010
Joshua Mills
From Neath in South Wales, Joshua is now recognised as a most promising up and coming young tenor.
He is presently twenty years of age, and through his vocal achievements was awarded the 2007 prize for voice by the South Wales Evening Post, the JMAS prize for voice and most recently, the Roder Chillcott Music in the Community Award.
Joshua was taught by the Head of Vocal Studies at the Royal Acadamy of Music for one year, until he accepted a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He is now in the second year of a four year degree course as a Classical tenor, under the vocal tuition of Adrian Thompson and Director of the National Opera Studio, Kathryn Harries.
Joshua has been selected on three separate occasions to perform with the Welsh National Youth Opera at the Wales Millennium Centre, including their latest production of Sweeney Todd. He has also sung solo at prestigious venues in Prague, Paris and Barcelona, where he toured with the Ariosa singers. He has also performed as a guest soloist with the Dunvant Male Choir, Newport Philharmonic Choir and Cardiff Male Choir.
Joshua was invited by the BBC to participate in a television programme about Welsh Tenors. His television debut was broadcast during March of this year as part of a four part series. He is now experiencing an increasingly busy concert schedule, and will also tour Tuscany with the Ariosa Singers this summer.
He aspires to progress through his degree course and further his studies in singing through postgraduate study with one of the leading music conservatories. His ultimate ambition is to become a leading opereatic tenor.
In his spare tme, Joshua enjoys cooking and going to chapel.
