ABOUT THE CHOIR
|
The choir was formed from the nucleus of the old Swansea Ladies Choir which was disbanded. Today the choir is a group of like minded ladies who enjoy singing and who, by giving many concerts, support a wide variety of charities and other organisations.
2004 saw the inauguration of the Swansea Excelsior Ladies Choir Student Award (SELCSA) and each year the choir awards a bursary to a student whose intention is to go on to further education to study music. The winner is also given the opportunity to perform at the Choirs Annual Patrons Concert.

The choir were members of the Welsh Association of Ladies Choirs and have joined with other member choirs to perform in concerts at venues in Cardiff, Aberavon, Swansea and Methyr Tydfil. The choir participated in making a CD with the Parc and Dare Brass Band, as well as singing before the Prince of Wales in Cardiff. As part of the Welsh Association of Ladies Choirs in 2000 the choir was fortunate to sing with Bryn Terfel, Cliff Richard and Daniel O'Donnel at the BBC's 'Millennium Songs of Praise',
The choir has travelled to various places. To celebrate the choir's Diamond Jubilee, the choir travelled to Volkenburg in the Netherlands. More recently the choir has twice visited St Mary's Church, Staple Fitzpaine (near Taunton) and have an invitation for a return visit. The choir has also sung in Dursley and Bristol.
Each year the choir hold its Annual Charity Concert. Since 1990 the choir has donated over £29500 to worthwhile local charities. It is due to the ladies of the choir, their families, friends and patrons that they have been able to achieve so much.
In 2008 the choir gave two concerts in Southend-on-Sea where they were guests of the Leigh Orpheus Male Voice Choir.
